Because of the nature of our patients, who are from an inner city area, our counseling is adapted to their cultural characteristics and lifestyle. With all patients, counselors are advised to attempt developing a formal counseling appointment schedule. Past experience has shown, however, that many clients show poor compliance with formal counseling appointment schedules.
The primary counselor completes the psychosocial assessment within two weeks after admission. During this period of time issues of immediate sobriety, motivation for treatment, and crisis-related problems are of major importance. The treatment contract, consent for treatment, and release of information will be completed at this time. As collaboration and trust develop, the comprehensive treatment plan can be developed (30 days after admission).
The patient’s active participation is essential in this process. An individualized schedule of individual and group therapy sessions will be developed talking into account the patient’s needs and any other time commitments that he or she might have
