Connecting and Coping” groups are conducted every Wednesday in English and Spanish. These groups are open to women who have attained reasonable sobriety and have the permission of their counselor. The groups have a fixed 12 week curriculum cycle so that patients have to start at the beginning of a cycle.
Level I “Connecting” and Level II “Coping” group address Post Traumatic Stress Disorders for female substance abusers. Level I Connecting teaches how to identify feelings regarding self related issues (i.e. listening, forgiving, honesty).
Level II Coping assists with developing various strategies (Connecting I is a pre-requisite for Coping II).
The groups utilize a curriculum detailed in the workbook “Connecting and Coping: psychological recovery for traumatized women and men”. This book was developed by Lincoln Recovery staff. A variety of topics such as dealing with loss, improving self-esteem and self confidence, enhancing self-control, and coping with adversity are reviewed.
The group targets female clients with histories of physical and sexual abuse and domestic violence. Patients who complete each 12 week cycle receive a certificate of completion.
