Relapse Prevention groups are available to any patient who has achieved a reasonable level of sobriety. Using a discussion format, patients learn about addiction as a chronic relapsing condition. Relapse prevention, triggers, and coping skills are highlighted. Changes in behavior and attitude that indicate avoidance and denial are covered.
Sometimes games such as “hangman” are used to enhance recollection and use of previously learned material. Games are used so that the patients can discuss topics in a relaxed manner without overly personalizing the material. Graduation certificates are available after 3-6 months. Groups are held in English and Spanish at various times during each week.
